Abstract:

The present investigation was undertaken to study the effect of long-term manuring and fertilization on yield and nutrient content & uptake by sorghum under sorghum-wheat sequence during 2024-25 (i.e. 37th cycle) on existing AICRP Long Term Fertilizer Experiment initiated during 1988 (Kharif) at the Research Farm, Department of Soil Science, Dr. Panjabrao Deshmukh Krishi Vidyapeeth, Akola. The experimental site's soil was predominantly montmorillonitic with a high clay content, exhibiting characteristic swell-shrink behavior under hyperthermic conditions. The seven treatments replicated four times in a randomized block design. The treatments of the experiment consists of different levels of recommended dose of fertilizers (RDF) viz., 50 NPK, 100% NPK, 100% NPK + FYM, FYM @ 10 t ha-1, 100% NPK + S @ 37.5 kg ha-1, 100% NPK + Residue management and Absolute control. The significantly highest seed yield and fodder yield of sorghum was recorded with the combined application 75% NPK+ FYM and followed by application of 100% NPK + Residue management FYM and the lowest recorded under control. The significantly highest content of nitrogen (N) was recorded with the application of 100% NPK + S @ 37.5 kg ha-1 followed by 100% NPK + Residue management and 75% NPK + FYM which was at par with each other. The application of 75% NPK combined with FYM resulted in a significantly higher content of phosphorus (P) and potassium (K), followed by the treatment with 100% NPK + S @ 37.5 kg ha-1. The significantly highest uptake of N, P and K by sorghum was observed with the application of 75% NPK + FYM followed 100% NPK + Residue management. The lowest content and uptake of N, P and K was observed in the control.
