Moisture dependent physical properties of pigeon pea grains of the variety PKV Tara
Vaishali D Sangekar and PH Bakane
Different important physical properties of pigeon pea grains of the variety Maruti (ICP-8863) were determined at four different moisture content levels of 10, 12, 14 and 16% dry basis (d.b.). With an increase of moisture content from 10 to 16% (d.b.), geometric mean diameter increased from 5.37 to 5.67 mm. The roundness and sphericity was found to be decreased from 0.823 to 0.780 and 0.87 to 0.83 respectively with the increase in moisture content from 10 to 16% (d.b.). The bulk density, true density and porosity decreased from 874.45 to 871.36 kg/m3 and 1371 to 1336 kg/m3and 36.24 to 34.82% respectively, while the angle of repose increased from 27.47° to 31.24°, as the moisture content increased from 10 to 16% (d.b.). The values of static coefficient of friction against MS, plywood and glass surface were found to be 0.57 to 0.69, 0.65 to 0.70 and 0.49 to 0.60, respectively.
