Seasonal incidence of major insect pests of pea
PD Mane and BB Singh
The seasonal variation or dynamics of insect pests are major constraints in the production of field pea. This study revealed that the seasonal incidence of pests in Nalanda district of Bihar during 2023-24 in the rabi season is related to ecological factors such as temperature, relative humidity, rainfall and bright sunshine hours. The highest population of pea aphid was noticed in second week of January. Maximum infestation of pea leaf miner was observed in last week of January. Infestation of pea pod borer was highest in second week of February. Minimum temperature morning relative humidity and rainfall showed significantly positive correlation with the population of pea aphid, pea leaf miner and stem fly whereas maximum temperature and Bright sunshine hours showed non-significantly negative correlation with the above three pests of pea. Morning relative humidity, rainfall and bright sunshine hours showed significantly positive correlation with the population of pea pod borer.
