Abstract:

Ozone therapy is an emerging alternative medical treatment that utilizes ozone (O₃) to treat various infections and enhance physiological functions. This study explores the therapeutic potential of ozone in veterinary medicine, focusing on its antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and tissue repair properties. The primary objective of this research is to evaluate ozone’s efficacy in treating bacterial and viral infections, its role in immune system modulation, and its potential advantages over conventional treatments.

The study employed ozone generation through high-voltage electrical discharge applied to medical-grade oxygen. Various administration methods, including rectal insufflation, ozonated saline injection, and topical application, were examined. The effectiveness of ozone therapy was assessed based on infection resolution, wound healing rates, and biochemical markers related to oxidative stress and immune function.

Results demonstrated that ozone therapy significantly improved healing in chronic infections and accelerated tissue regeneration. It exhibited bactericidal and virucidal properties, effectively eliminating pathogens in conditions such as leptospirosis, Lyme disease, and brucellosis. Additionally, ozone therapy was found to enhance antioxidant enzyme production, reducing oxidative stress and promoting immune system activation. However, concerns regarding ozone toxicity were noted, particularly with excessive exposure beyond Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) limits.

In conclusion, ozone therapy presents a promising alternative for managing infectious diseases and inflammatory conditions, particularly in veterinary medicine. While it offers notable therapeutic benefits, further research is needed to optimize dosage and minimize potential risks associated with its application.
