Abstract:

This study aims to investigate the production performance of Narmada nidhi birds fed an azolla-supplemented diet, focusing on carcass characteristics and economics of production. Azolla pinnata is a rich source of protein, calcium, amino acids, minerals, and vitamins. It has been extensively studied for its impact on poultry bird performance. The study measured body conformation traits, live weight, carcass weight, dressing percentage, meat bone ratio, shank length, keel length, and bled weight at 12 weeks of age. Results showed no significant differences between the three groups, with higher values in group T3 and T2. The meat bone ratio was significantly higher in group T2 than in group T1, and the keel length was higher in group T2 and T3. The bled weight was significantly higher in group T3 compared to group T1 and T2. The study provides valuable insights into the potential benefits of azolla supplementation on poultry production. The study found no significant difference in slaughter traits, carcass quality characteristics, or cut-up parts among treatment groups of Narmada nidhi birds. The net profit was higher in group T3, followed by group T2, and group T1. The benefit cost ratio was higher in group T3, followed by group T2, and group T1. The cost of feed consumed was lower in both azolla-fed groups compared to group T1. The feed cost for 1 kg gain in live weight was also lower in the azolla-fed groups compared to group T1. Indicating that azolla meal can replace up to 5% of basal diet without causing any adverse effect on broiler performance.
