The present study was conducted to work out the varietal diversification, to examine the different sources of paddy seed and their market share and cost and returns of different major variety grown by the farmer in Raipur district of Chhattisgarh. The survey for specified objective was conducted in Abhanpur, Arang, Tilda, and Dharshiwa blocks of Raipur district of Chhattisgarh. Data were collected from 87 rice growers, respondents were selected proportionately the grower and stakeholder was chosen from total 8 villages. The primary data were collected from the paddy growers through personal interview method with the help of well-prepared questionnaire for the production and marketing year 2023-2024.

In the study area major grew variety was Swarna followed by MTU1010, Mahamaya, RB Gold and Rajeshwari. The total area 149.54 ha. Overall Simpson index wes (0.62) which showed high varietal diversity index in the study area. There were 24 major paddy varieties supplied by different agencies in Chhattisgarh among them 15 varieties were developed by IGKV and contributed (13.35 per-cent) seed supply. The ratio of public and private sector paddy varieties in terms of area covered in the study area was 68:32. The major source in terms of area covered was co-operatives which covers 59.90% area, 35.61% of area covered under private and 4.49% area was covered by own seed.

The study reveal that Swarna was the most popularized variety in study area and the overall cost of cultivation of Swarna variety was 68206.36 rs/ha. The overall gross income was 118105.21 rs/ha, gross income with bonus was 166092.24, the overall input-output ratio was 1:1.73 and the overall BC ratio was 1:0.73 with bonus overall input-output ratio was 1:2.43 and the overall BC ratio was 1:1.43.
