Abstract:

Agricultural extension services have traditionally offered farmers crucial knowledge and guidance through direct, field-based interactions. Despite their benefits, these services often struggle with limitations in scalability, reach, and timeliness. The integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and sensor technologies represents a transformative shift in agricultural practices, combining the depth of traditional farming knowledge with cutting-edge technology. As India aspires to become a developed nation by 2047, the strategic application of AI is poised to significantly enhance agricultural productivity, sustainability, and food security. This paper investigates the role of AI in revolutionizing agricultural extension services, focusing on three key areas: precision farming, decision support systems, and sustainable development. We examine how AI can optimize various aspects of livestock management, including feeding management, breeding practices, healthcare, identification, and housing. AI-driven precision feeding systems tailor feed distribution to individual animal needs, improving both productivity and efficiency. Advances in breeding management leverage AI to analyse genetic data and optimize reproductive strategies. Health monitoring devices equipped with AI enhance disease prediction and early detection, while automated identification systems and housing management technologies streamline animal care and environmental control. Artificial Intelligence can be effectively integrated into agricultural extension services, leading to improved productivity, enhanced sustainability, and better alignment with sustainable development goals.
