Abstract:

This study evaluated the efficacy of different therapeutic protocols in managing congestive heart failure (CHF) in geriatric dogs. Twenty-four dogs diagnosed with CHF were randomly categorized into three groups: Group I (digoxin), Group II (pimobendane), and Group III (combination of carvedilol and pimobendane). Haematological and biochemical parameters were assessed at baseline (day 0) and post-treatment (day 42). Clinical outcomes and cardiac biomarkers (cardiac troponin-I), and survival rates were also analyzed at day 0 and day 42. In conclusion, Group III demonstrated the most significant improvements, including normalization of haematological and biochemical parameters, a significant reduction in cardiac troponin-I levels, and the highest survival rate (66.67%). These results indicated the superiority of the combined therapy, especially in cases with severe tachycardia, hypertension, and atrial fibrillation.
