Abstract:

The Specialized Pheromone and Lure Application Technology (SPLAT®) has become a pivotal tool in insect pest management, providing an environmentally friendly alternative to traditional chemical pesticides. By enabling the controlled release of pheromones and semiochemicals, SPLAT® disrupts the mating behaviour of pests, effectively reducing their populations without impacting non-target species. Its precision, cost-effectiveness and sustainability make SPLAT® a valuable asset within Integrated Pest Management (IPM) strategies. Recent advancements have enhanced SPLAT®'s stability, longevity and efficacy, broadening its applicability across various pests and environments. Key findings reveal SPLAT®'s success in controlling pests like the codling moth, pink bollworm and fruit flies, significantly lowering pest populations. The review emphasizes that SPLAT® not only improves crop protection but also decreases reliance on chemical pesticides, supporting the global shift toward sustainable agriculture. With growing demand for organic produce and strict environmental regulations, SPLAT®'s role in pest management is expected to expand.
