Abstract:
The present investigation entitled “Varietals evaluation of carrot (Daucus carota L.) under Prayagraj, Agro-Climatic conditions" was carried out at the Horticulture Research Farm, Department of Horticulture, Sam Higginbottom University of Agriculture, Technology and Sciences, Prayagraj, during winter (Rabi) season of 2023-2024, to find out the best treatment for better growth, yield and quality of carrot for this region. The field trial was laid out in Randomized Block Design 10 different varieties viz., Shalni, Super Sel, Sindhuri, Lali, Agri, Priyam, Kalika, Surbhi (Check), TMCT-19008 and TMCT-19006 each replicated three times. The allocation of treatments to the individual plots was done using random numbers in each replication. The results revealed that the genotype “V9 (TMCT-19008)” had the best over all performance than the other evaluated varieties of carrot as revealed from the data of the growth, yield and quality parameters of carrot. The result showed that there were significant differences found among all the varieties. Among the varieties V9 (TMCT-19008) was found to be the best varieties among the other varieties in Root weight (g), Root yield per plot, Root yield per ha (t/ha) attributing parameters and quality parameters as maximum TSS (Brix0) and ascorbic acid compared to all other varieties as well as maximum Gross return (Rs. 498493.123), Net return (Rs. 362727.123) and cost benefit ratio was found to be best (1: 2.67).
