Statistical analysis of turmeric farmers and their information sharing behaviour in Dharmapuri district of Tamil Nadu

Abstract:
Golden spice called Turmeric and it is originated from South Asia and cultivated majorly in India. Tamil Nadu ranks second in both production and area under turmeric cultivation among all the states in India. Dharmapuri is one of the major turmeric producing districts in Tamil Nadu. Turmeric produced in Dharmapuri is sent throughout the country. It ranks second in area and production in the state after Erode district. The major turmeric cultivating areas in Dharmapuri are Pappireddipatti, Harur, Nallampalli, Karimangalam, Dharmapuri, Palacode and Pennagaram. Major turmeric producing villages in Pappireddipatti are Venkatasamuthiram, Menasi, Molayanur, A.Pallipatti, Bommidi and Devarajapalayam. The respondents were selected by using proportionate random sampling technique. The data were collected by personal interview utilizing a well structured and pre-tested interview schedule. The collected data were tabulated and analyzed using appropriate statistical tools and correlation, multiple regression analysis was worked out. In this research, we concluded that thirteen independent variables were selected and out of thirteen independent variables, six variables viz., age, educational status, farming experience, mass media exposure, extension agency contact and innovativeness of the turmeric farmers had exhibited positive and significant relationship with the information sharing behaviour of turmeric farmers in Pappireddipatti taluk of Dharmapuri.
