The study of biology of brinjal shoot and fruit borer, Leucinodes orbonalis Guenee was conducted in the PG laboratory, Department of Entomology, C. P. College of Agriculture, Sardarkrushinagar Dantiwada Agricultural University, Sardarkrushinagar during 2020-21. Biology of shoot and fruit borer, L. orbonalis on brinjal fruit in laboratory conditions completed with four different stages viz., egg, larva, pupa and adult. The mean incubation period lasted for about 4.37±0.56 days. The larva of L. orbonalis moulted four times and thus there were five instars. The average duration of first, second, third, fourth and fifth instar larva were recorded as 2.13±0.34, 2.56±0.50, 2.70±0.46, 3.30±0.46 and 3.56±0.50 days, respectively. Total larval developmental period was completed within mean duration of 14.26±0.98 days. The mean pre pupal period was 1.70±0.47 days. While, the pupal period lasted for about 7.97±0.56 days. The pre-oviposition period, oviposition period, post-oviposition period and fecundity were 1.83±0.37, 2.23±0.43, 1.76±0.43 days and 115.23±15.15 eggs/female, respectively while average male and female adult longevity was 3.26±0.45 days and 5.86±0.38 days, respectively. The average total life cycle of male and female was 34.13±1.36 days and 36.37±1.07 days, respectively. The sex ratio of male: female was of 1:2.10.
