Genetic variability, heritability and genetic advance in soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merrill]
Sunder Nayak, BL Meena, SC Sharma, Karan Sachdeva and Himanshi
The current investigation was carried out to evaluate genetic variability parameters among forty genotypes of soybean in RBD with three replications during kharif-2022. Including three check varieties viz., JS 20-34, JS 95-60 and RKS-113 for thirteen quantitative traits. The level of genetic heterogeneity present in the population determines whether a breeding effort was successful. A wider range of genetic variability assists in choosing preferred genotypes. Estimates of various genetic variability parameters including range, mean, genotypic coefficient of variation (%), phenotypic coefficient of variation (%), heritability, genetic advance and genetic advance as % of mean for all the thirteen characters are provided in the Table: 2 along with graphical representation in Fig. 1. The combination of the high heritability and high genetic advance provide the clear image of the trait in the selection process for crop improvement programme.
