Abstract:

Among the citrus species, lemon is one of the important species of the citrus cultivated in warm southern slopes of the Himalayas of India and adjacent to Burma, Southern China and Indo-China. In North Indian conditions, major bloom occurs during early spring (February-March). Lemon fruits are acidic in nature with convex at base and rounded at apex having green-yellow skin color, 3 mm rind thickness, smooth surface and strongly conspicuous oil glands. Fruits having polyembryony, smooth surface and creamy colored seed. Citrus lemon fruits and their by-products are of high economic and medicinal value because of their multipurpose uses, such as in food industry, cosmetic and folk medicine.

The present study aimed to assess the effect of foliar spray of bio regulators and nutrients {i.e., the second week of March in both years (2022-23, 2023-24)} and among 24 treatments four treatments, bio-regulators (GA3 @ 20 ppm, NAA @ 50 ppm) and nutrients (ZnSO4 @ 0.4%, Borax @ 0.4%) are effective in increases the fruit yield and shelf life of lemon.

To this end, a full factorial experiment lasting two growing seasons was carried out under field conditions in the representative semi-arid region of Rajasthan. We assessed the vegetative growth of the trees, fruit size and yield, and some quality parameters (total soluble content, acidity and juice percentage) as well as the main post-harvest traits (fruit spoilage).

The foliar spray bio-regulators and nutrients and their combination also responded most positively effect on fruit parameters as compare to others, a higher amount of TSS (5.19), Acidity (5.15) and juice percent (36.89). Among bio-regulators and nutrients GA3 @ 20 ppm and ZnSO4 @ 0.4% are highly positive influence on growth parameters, quality, yield and shelf-life parameters of Lemon.
