This study aimed to investigate the pathology of ascites syndrome in broiler chickens reared in the Ganderbal District of Kashmir. A total of 200 broiler chickens showed clinical signs of ascites from 15 different farms which were compared with healthy chickens from the same farms. The postmortem examination revealed fluid buildup in the abdominal cavity, along with an enlarged right ventricle of the heart and swelling in both the liver and kidneys. The histopathological analysis revealed liver congestion and edema, heart congestion with muscle fiber degeneration, and lung congestion with parenchymal edema, atelectasis, and significant dilation of the tertiary bronchi. Additionally, there was heavy infiltration of mononuclear cells in the spleen, and necrosis, congestion, and mononuclear cell infiltration in the intestines were prominent features in ascitic broilers.
