Abstract:

The present investigation was aimed to evaluate nature and magnitude of genetic variation, genetic inheritance and genetic advancement of thirty-eight progenies of rice with two checks obtained from Agricultural Research Station, Sakoli, Bhandara. The research was carried out during the Kharif season of 2024 using a randomized block design (RBD) with two replications at field of All India Coordinated Research Project on Linseed and Mustard, College of Agriculture, Nagpur under direct seeded condition. A total of nine traits were assessed, including days to 50% flowering, days to maturity, plant height, panicle length, number of panicles plant-1, number of spikelet’s panicle-1, spikelet fertility percentage, 1000 grain weight and grain yield plant-1. Analysis of variance due to progenies were highly significant for all the characters under study. The findings revealed that traits like grain yield plant-1 exhibited highest value of genotypic and phenotypic coefficient of variability along with high heritability and genetic advance percentage of mean however number of spikelet’s panicle-1, panicle length and 1000 grain weight displayed moderate genotypic and phenotypic coefficient of variability along with high heritability and genetic advance percentage of mean indicating additive gene action in the expression of this characters which is heritable and fixable in nature, hence direct selection for these characters would be fruitful. Consequently, six progenies showed significant superiority under direct seeded condition and recommended for testing in multilocational trials.
