Rosehips the cherry-sized red fruits of a Rose, have been used for eating and other purposes since the ancient times. The Rose fruits (hip) have natural content of vitamin C along with antioxidants, carotenoids, flavonoids, polyphenols, leuco-anthocyanins and catechins. Through recent studies it has found that consumption of Rosehip results in improved joint mobility, thus reinforcing the popular belief that that rosehip can be used effectively to manage osteoarthritis. Through various studies it has been concluded that Rosehips extract has an active anti-inflammatory component GOPO (glycoside of mono and diglycerol) which is most effective in significantly and rapidly reducing crippling joint pain and improving mobility in case of arthritis. It has been reported that that consumption of rosehip discourages accumulation of white blood cells in the joints, thus resulting in significant improvement in individuals suffering from osteoarthritis.
Extracts made from rosehips help in reducing proliferation of cancer cells in addition to serving as an alternative to current chemotherapeutic regimens for glioblastomas. Further fruit acids and pectin in rose hips have been found to have mild diuretic and laxative effect. It has also been found to improve and provide relief to kidney disorder and is helpful in mild constipation.
