Abstract:

The present study was undertaken to evaluate the growth, yield, and quality attributes of pole-type dolichos bean (Lablab purpureus L.) genotypes under Konkan agro-climatic conditions during the rabi seasons of 2022-23 and 2023-24. Eighteen genotypes, including one check variety (PDKV-Deepali), were assessed in a randomized block design with two replications. Significant variability was observed among the genotypes for all studied traits. Among the genotypes, T2 (PDB-2) exhibited superior performance with the highest vine length (405.87 cm), branch number (10.58), pod length (11.48 cm), and fresh 100-seed weight (81.79 g), indicating its potential for high productivity. T12 (PDB-12) recorded the maximum pod width (2.33 cm), while T15 (PDB-15) showed the latest flowering tendency. The wide range of variability recorded for vegetative, reproductive, and yield parameters highlights the genetic diversity present in the local genotypes. The findings suggest that certain genotypes, particularly T2 (PDB-2), may serve as promising material for breeding programs aimed at enhancing yield and quality in dolichos beans under the Konkan region's specific agro-climatic conditions.
