Abstract:

The current study entitled “Evaluation of tuberose (Agave amica L.) genotype for growth, yield and quality of flowers under North Bastar Agro-Climatic condition of Chhattisgarh” was conducted at Instructional Farm Singarbhat, Ramprasad Potai College of Agriculture and Research Station, Kanker under Indira Gandhi Krishi Vishwavidyalaya, Raipur (C.G.) during the year 2023-24. The experimental design utilized a Randomized Block Design (RBD) with 10 treatments, including three replications. The treatments were BR-2, BR-1, GKTC-4, Arka Prajwal, Phule Rajat, Hyderabad Single, Arka Nirantra, Kalyani Single, BR-24 and Phule Rajat Double.

The present investigation revealed that the genotype BR-1 exhibited significantly superior vegetative growth, as evidenced by the maximum plant height (64.47 cm), while Arka Nirantra recorded the highest number of leaves Plant-1 (47.93 cm). In terms of flowering parameters, BR-1 showed early days to first spike initiation (35.00 days), opening of the first floret (56.67 days), 50% flowering (75.67 days), and first harvesting (82.67 days).Regarding quality parameters, BR-1 recorded the highest spike length (99.33 cm), rachis length (43.93 cm), floret length (6.73 cm) and floret diameter (3.32 cm), while the largest spike diameter (1.44 cm) was observed in Arka Nirantra and the maximum vase life of spikes (7.90 days) was noted in Phule Rajat.

For yield parameters, BR-1 demonstrated the highest number of spikes plot-1 (61.23) and ha-1 (340164.6), as well as the maximum number of florets spike-1 (36.26), weight of florets spike-1 (84.43 gm) and weight of florets plot-1 (2518.33 gm). In bulb parameters, BR-1 recorded the highest number of bulbs clump-1 (4.93), plot-1 (145.33) and ha-1 (807385.8) and bulb diameter after harvesting (3.50 cm). Arka Nirantra exhibited the highest bulb weight clump-1 (47.41 gm), plot-1 (1419.97 gm) and ha-1 (7886.72 kg), whereas Kalyani Single achieved the maximum bulblet weight clump-1 (42.30 gm), plot-1 (1253.33 gm) and ha-1 (6960.94 kg).

Thus, it can be concluded that BR-1 is the most promising genotype for vegetative growth, flowering, quality, yield, and bulb parameters. Therefore this genotype maybe suitable for commercial cultivation under the North Bastar agro-climatic conditions of Chhattisgarh.
