The present study was carried out to find out the “Effect of basal cut and spike dipping in preservative solution on vase life of gladiolus (Gladiolus grandiflorus L.) cv. Saffron.” was study at laboratory of Department of Floriculture and Landscape Architecture, College of Agriculture, IGKV, Raipur, (C.G.) during season 2023-24. The experiment was designed in a completely randomized design in factorial arrangement with three levels of chemical dipping viz., C0 (no cut), C1 (alternate days cut) and C2 (after two days cut) and three levels of basal cut of spike viz., D0 (no dip), D1 (dip in 200 ppm salicylic acid) and D2 (dip in 4%boric acid). The results revealed that the C2D1 (After two days cut and dip in 200 ppm salicylic acid) significantly lowest physiological weight loss (42.40%), maximum water uptake loss ratio (1.30), maximum number of days (4.22 days) taken to basal floret deterioration, maximum florets opening percentage (91.22%), highest longevity of spikes in days (12.16 days). However, maximum relative water consumption (96.33%), maximum number of florets remained open at a time (3.55), maximum flower diameter (87.62 mm), highest vase life of spikes in days (9.78 days) was found to be treatment C2D2 (After two day cut and dip in 4% boric acid).
