Harvesting prosperity: Exploring millet-based primary and ready-to-eat products for economic empowerment of women in rural areas of Nagar Kurnool District

Abstract:

This research study explores the transformative impact of millet-based primary and ready-to-eat products on women's economic empowerment in rural areas, with a focus on the pivotal role played by technical assistance from home science scientists at Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Palem. Millets, known for their nutritional richness and adaptability to diverse agro-climatic conditions, have emerged as a promising avenue for rural entrepreneurship. This research examines the experiences of women entrepreneurs who have leveraged millet-based products to generate substantial profits and drive socio-economic development in their communities. It gives the necessity of preparation of value-added products to improve the health status among the community. This study resulted that Average income generated in a day is 400/- Rupees from processing of millet based primary products in the form of millet flour and Average Income Per day is 300/- Rupees from processing of RTE products in the form of millet roti apart from the regular daily income generating activities. These products not only capitalize on the nutritional benefits of millets but also cater to changing consumer preferences for healthy and convenient food options. Moreover, the study underscores the importance of technical assistance from Krishi Vigyan Kendra scientists in product development, food processing techniques, packaging innovation, and market linkages, which have contributed to the success and sustainability of women-led enterprises.
