Abstract:
The experiment entitled “Effect of number of nodes and IBA concentration on cutting of little gourd (Coccinia grandis L.).” was conducted at Hi-tech Horticulture Park, College of Horticulture, J.A.U., Junagadh during the year kharif, 2023. Total twelve treatment combinations comprising three level of node number viz., two nodes (N1), three nodes (N2), four nodes (N3) and four level of IBA concentration viz., 250 ppm (I1), 500 ppm (I2), 750 ppm (I3) and 1000 ppm (I4) were allocated in completely randomized design with factorial concept in three repetition. Among different number of nodes, two nodes had earlier initiation of sprouts (9.58), maximum number of roots (7.80), rooting percentage (68.83), length of root (24.06 cm) and fresh weight of roots (4.03 g) at 75 DAP. Furthermore, cuttings with two nodes (N1) recorded the highest survival percentage (66.33) at 90 DAP. In case of different level of IBA treatments, minimum days to initiation of sprouts (9.68) was recorded in treatment 250 ppm IBA (I1). There were found maximum number of roots per cutting (9.72), rooting percentage (71.54), length of root (27.67 cm), fresh weight of roots (4.55 g) at 75 DAP. The maximum number of leaves (10.61, 15.29, 22.53 and 28.06) was recorded with treatment of 250 ppm IBA (I1) at 30, 45, 60 and 75 DAP, respectively. The interaction effect between number of nodes and IBA concentration were found significant in parameters like; minimum days to initiation of sprouts (6.50) in treatment combination having cuttings with two nodes + 250 ppm IBA concentration. It was also recorded maximum number of roots per cutting (12.68), rooting percentage (81.67), length of roots (32.85 cm) and fresh weight of roots (6.85 g) at 75 DAP. Maximum survival percentage (79.00) was also recorded in treatment combination containing cuttings with two nodes + 250 ppm IBA concentration (N1I1).
