Abstract:
The present investigation was carried out during 2020-2021 on “Effect of plant extract on vase life in rose” at the Department of Floriculture and Landscape Architecture, Kittur Rani Channamma College of Horticulture, Arabhavi, two experiments were conducted i.e (a) effect of plant extract on vase life of rose and (b) effect of combination of plant extract on vase life of rose. The experiments were laid out in Completely Randomized Design. The rose flowers held in vase solution containing T2 (Ocimum sanctum @ 5.0%) recorded the longest vase life of 8.64 days, cumulative uptake of vase solution (CUV) of 18.87 g/ days, cumulative transpiration loss of vase solution (CTL) of 28.35 g/ days, maximum final fresh weight of 12.86 g/ days. Minimum microbial load was observed in T16 (8 HQS @ 0.8%) 2.27 cfu × 10-5 followed by T2 (Ocimum sanctum @ 5.0%) 2.41 cfu × 10-5. In different combinations of plant extracts the rose flowers (Exp-2) held in vase solution containing T1 (Ocimum sanctum @ 5.0% + Cymbopogon winterianus @ 5.0%) had recorded a longest vase life of 7.33 days, cumulative uptake of vase solution (CUV) of 17.35 g/ days, cumulative transpiration loss of vase solution (CTL) of 28.37 g/ days, fresh weight of 5.82 g / days, minimum microbial load 2.38 cfu × 10-5. Among the effect of plant extract on the vase life of rose flowers T2 (Ocimum sanctum @ 5.0%) was found to be best in maintaining vase life and its parameters. T1 (Ocimum sanctum @ 5.0% + Cymbopogon winterianus @ 5.0%) was found effective in the effect of a combination of plant extracts on the vase life of rose flowers.
