Heterosis for yield and yield contributing characters under terminal heat stress in wheat (Triticum aestivum L.)

Abstract: To study the effect of terminal heat stress on yield and yield contributing characters, six females and eight males were crossed in a line x tester fashion to generate 48 crosses and were evaluated in a randomized block design (RBD) with three replications in the fields of Wheat Research Unit, Dr. Panjabrao Deshmukh Krishi Vidyapeeth, Akola over two environments. Estimates of heterobeltiosis and standard heterosis were collected for various yield and yield contributing characters, including number of days to 50% flowering, number of days to maturity, grain yield, plant height, number of effective tillers/plant, number of grains/ear head, thousand grain weight, grain weight/plant, and harvest index.
