Abstract:

The present investigation entitled “Evaluation of different Bhiwapuri chilli strains for growth, yield, and quality” was conducted during the Kharif season at the Experimental Unit, Betelvine research station, Ramtek, Nagpur, in the year 2023-2024 using a Randomized Block Design (RBD). Fifteen strains of Bhiwapuri chilli were studied, with three replications. Results revealed significant variations among strains in terms of growth parameters. The highest plant height (98.15 cm) and maximum plant spread (73.89 cm) were recorded in Bhiwapuri chilli strain II, while strain VII exhibited the highest number of primary branches (8.27). For flowering parameters, strain X (T10) showed the earliest flowering at 25.16 days, with 50% flowering achieved in 39.11 days.

In terms of yield parameters, strain II demonstrated the highest fruit count plant-1(92.49), while strain V had the highest fruit weight (5.73 g). Notably, strain II yielded the highest fresh fruit weight plant-1(394.51 g) and dry fruit yield (97.41 g). The maximum fresh fruit yield plot-1 was 37.53 kg, with a corresponding dry fruit yield of 4.20 kg, leading to a yield ha-1 of 90.72 quintals.
