Abstract:

Characterization of germplasm is important for crop improvement. An investigation was carried out with twenty guava genotypes to investigate morphological characters viz. leaf qualitative and fruit qualitative and quantitative characters. The data were statistically analysed using descriptive statistical methods. While observing the fruit qualitative characters, Highest fruit weight was found in T17 P10 (220.49 g), highest fruit length was recorded in T15 P24 ( 9.69 cm ) and highest fruit diameter was obtained in T17 P10 ( 7.54 cm ). The minimum number of seeds and less seed hardness was observed in T13 P28 (208.50) and (3.93 kg/cm2) respectively. Among the 20 genotypes T17 P10, T11 P26 were found superior according to fruit weight, outer flesh thickness, shelf life, pulp texture and pulp colour. Thus, this study identifies promising guava genotypes that can be utilized for further crop improvement programme.
