Heterosis was estimated in Indian mustard for 12 quantitative character . Thirty F1 crosses of mustard (Brassica species) obtained by line x tester mating design using 13 parents (10 lines and 3 testers). The F1 hybrids along with parents and checks (10 lines and 3 testers, TAM 108-1 and Kranti was used as parents as well as checks) were grown at AICRP on during 2022-2023 in Randomized Block Design in 3 replications for evaluation to estimate the useful heterosis of crosses for seed yield and yield contributing characters. Six crosses namely NUDH-YJ-6 x Kranti, PM-31 x ACN-237, DRMRQ 1-5 x TAM 108-1, NUDH-18 x ACN-237, Krishna x ACN-237 and RLC-3 x Kranti showing significant per se performance, significant useful heterosis and significant SCA effect for seed yield and it’s contributing characters were identified as potential crosses for the exploitation in heterosis breeding. These crosses after their evaluation trials can be used for development of hybrids after conversion of female parents into male sterile line because conventional hybrid is not economically feasible in mustard.
