Abstract:

An experiment entitled, “Studies on effect of different packaging materials on physico-chemical properties of giloy satva (Tinospora cordifolia Miers)” The present research was carried out to study the effect of different packaging materials on physico-chemical parameters of Giloy satva during storage at ambient temperature. The experiment was laid out in Factorial Completely Randomized Block Design (FCRD) comprising seven treatment combinations of different packaging materials viz. LDPE bag, HDPE bag, PET jar, Glass bottle, Triple layer aluminium foil pouch, Amber colour glass bottle and Brown paper bag were used. After packing the samples were stored at ambient temperature and the samples were analysed for both physico-chemical qualities at regular intervals of 4 months for a year. The moisture content of the Giloy Satva at the end of storage period was 7.761% and colour value L* (93.084) a* (0.242), b* (3.617). The total ash percent was 0.601%, acid insoluble ash was 0.319%, alcohol and water soluble extractive was13.350% and 20.791% observed respectively. The pH was 5.025, starch was 15.094%, carbohydrate was 25.352% and alkaloids was 0.284% at 12 months of storage. From the results of present studies, it can be concluded that the triple layer aluminium foil pouch is found best to store Giloy satva upto one year at ambient condition as compare to other packaging materials used in this study.
