Abstract:

A study was conducted at Mahatma Phule Krishi Vidyapeeth, Rahuri, Maharashtra, India to evaluate various physical characteristics of twenty different jamun genotypes. The results showed a significant variability in physical characteristics. The leaf characteristics showed variability in leaf length (11.84 to 15.94 cm), leaf width (3.44 to 7.74 cm), petiole length (1.58 to 2.70 cm) and internodal length (3.01 to 7.37 cm). Fruit weight (18.29 g), fruit length (4.02 cm) are maximum in the genotype RHRJ-7/1 and fruit diameter is maximum in the genotype HN-2 (2.43 cm). Minimum fruit weight (2.35 g), length (1.56 cm) and diameter (0.92 cm) are recorded in the genotype RHRJ-10/4. Seed characteristics also showed variability, with minimum seed weight (0.28 g), seed length (0.54 cm) and seed diameter (0.33 cm) recorded in RHRJ-10/4 genotype. Pulp characteristics like pulp weight was maximum in genotype RHRJ-7/1 (15.11 g) and minimum in the genotype RHRJ-10/4 (2.07 g) and pulp to seed ratio was highest in genotype RHRJ-10/5 (8.43) and lowest in the genotype RHRJ-7/5 (1.30).
