Abstract:

For ages, vetiver root mats have been used as a natural air conditioning system in India due to its durability, cooling properties and earthy aroma. Ornamental climbers have recently grown in favor as indoor plants due to their aesthetic appeal, air purifying properties and adaptability to grow along the support given, making them ideal for indoor spaces. Using this traditional knowledge, the current study was undertaken on the growth response of the ornamental plants on vetiver root mats in order to develop them as bio canvases for a sustainable interior design. Among all the treatments, T1 (Morning glory and T4 (Pothos) have showed best results for all the observations recorded followed by T6 (Wedelia) and T2 (Cypress vine) on the vetiver root mats making them suitable for developing bio canvases.
